According to People en Español, the McRae family was living a normal routine until their son Jamon began suffering intense headaches that deeply worried his parents.

After several emergency room visits and an MRI, doctors discovered a brain mass located near the child’s brainstem.

The finding revealed that the tumor was compressing critical brain structures, explaining the rapidly worsening symptoms that had escalated in just a matter of days.

While the family was still processing this devastating news, the mother, Britney McRae, received her own cancer diagnosis just one hour later — a shocking turn that became central to the mother and son cancer diagnosis story.

Surgery and confirmation of the malignant tumor

Jamon underwent a 15-hour brain surgery on November 3 in an effort to remove as much of the tumor as possible.

Doctors were unable to remove the entire mass, increasing concern that it was an aggressive tumor with a difficult prognosis.

Two days later, pathology results confirmed that the tumor was malignant and aggressive, ruling out initial suspicions of a benign growth.

The diagnosis marked the beginning of a long medical battle for the child and his family, who had to completely reorganize their lives.

While Jamon recovered from surgery, Britney received confirmation that she had gestational trophoblastic neoplasia, the result of a rare complete molar pregnancy.

The condition causes tumors to grow instead of a normal placenta, making it the most common form of gestational trophoblastic disease, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

Both mother and son received the cancer diagnoses within just one hour of each other — an emotional blow that the father, Jake McRae, described as “unimaginable.”

The child began daily radiation treatments and chemotherapy, while Britney started her own cancer treatment amid overwhelming physical and emotional exhaustion.

Family seeks support as the fight continues

Britney’s siblings created a GoFundMe page to offer financial support to the family, describing her as the “glue” that holds their home together.

The campaign revealed that Jamon had undergone a second major surgery and was experiencing postoperative complications that doctors were monitoring closely.

The family travels frequently between southern Oregon and Stanford Medicine in Palo Alto to continue the long-term treatment required for both mother and son.

Despite the pain and uncertainty, the community has responded with strong support, helping the McRaes face one of the most difficult moments of their lives together.
